WARBY PARKER

When I was asked to write an article on a brand that inspired me, in all honesty I had a really difficult time coming up with something. I think part of that difficulty is derived from my perception that so many brands today lack a point of view on the world and its needs. If I’m going to associate with a brand, I not only want the experience of the product to be worthwhile, I want to know what the company stands for and whether it’s concerned with its impact on the world past the point of my purchase and its profit. I initially declined to write this article until a recent experience I encountered with a brand by the name of Warby Parker.
I heard about Warby Parker from a friend who used the services and recommended them to me. For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, their company goals include: 1. Provide unique, vintage inspired eyewear 2. Reasonably Priced / good quality 3. Provide a pair of glasses to someone in need with every pair sold.

When I first learned of the brand, I hopped on their site to browse the women’s collection. The design of the site is simple, intuitive and greets me with the message that all glasses are $95. Considering the fact that these glasses are offered only through their online service made the cleanliness and usability of the site even more important to me. I never once felt frustrated as I searched through the site to find the right shape, color and style. I then decided to take a picture of myself to upload on their virtual-try-on service. I adjusted the glasses in my photo and then emailed my mom my favorites. Also noteworthy: You can even share your virtual-try-on image with the Facebook world or save it to your desktop. If I wasn’t in such dire need of a new pair of glasses at the moment I most definitely would have taken advantage of their home-try-on service of 5 pairs of glasses for 5 days.

After picking a pair of glasses and filling out the appropriate information on the site, I was emailed a confirmation email and within a week my glasses were shipped directly to my home. I was so pleased with my experience that i decided to fill out an online survey as a way to say “thanks”. At the time, I had no idea the survey would enter me in a drawing for a free pair of prescription sunglasses until a few weeks after I received this surprising email:

Fantastic! At this point in my brand experience, I’ve enjoyed every aspect of shopping for glasses online and I even won a new pair of prescription sunglasses for being loyal and giving 10 minutes of my time to their online survey. But it wasn’t the ease of their online store, or the even the fact that I won a new pair of glasses that really made me LOVE this brand. What really put them on my top list of brands was the notion that my purchase would better someone’s life through a free pair of glasses. In some weird way I felt connected to this brand like a friend. Together we made a difference. That is why I can hands down say that Warby Parker is a brand I love.
