ODELL BREWING COMPANY
By Tyler Harberts

There are thousands of micro-brewing companies in the nation, and they’re all striving to be known for their crafty tastes and the quality of their process. Each region of the United States seems to have their one or two most popular brews. I have discovered an amazing gem. They are a Fort Collins, CO based company, called Odell Brewing Company, and as far as I’m concerned, there is no better brewery on this planet. I’ve been out there a couple times to visit the brewery, and it has been amazing every time. Each time I’m learning a bit more about how they operate and why they’ve become who they are. You feel an immediate connection when you hear that they started making brews out of a kitchen, perfecting recipes, and slowly trying to spread the word on what a “craft beer” was.

When it comes to buying a micro-beer at the shelf, it’s like anything else, sometimes you have to judge the product on how it looks. Odell definitely has an outstanding presence when it comes to the shelf, but the real beauty is in the details. The overall feeling of the Odell brand has a very handcrafted quality to it. I love the woodblock print! It makes for distinctive imagery that is simply done. It also makes me feel like it should be engraved in a tree, in my back yard. I’m a huge fan of that well-crafted feeling. Their identity gives you a sense of personality to the brand, company, and each beer you sip on.
From their labels, to the tap room, to the trucks that haul the beer around, to the accessories you can purchase at the brewery, it all looks consistent, neat, unique, and like it’s made just for me. The quality and unique characteristics of their identity elements really come together to make wholesome personality. Never do I feel like this is a huge corporation just out to make a quick buck, but a company that prides themselves on getting you the best quality product they can deliver – that’s Odell.

Odell has perfected their process and has six classic beers, three season, a woodcut series, and a couple single serving brews. Recently, they have added a 4-Pack Series that consists of a double I.P.A., called Myrcenary, and the other, Double Pilsner. I’ve had the Myrcenary, and it is wonderfully delicious! So flavorful my mouth is watering right now. I will have to say it has become my new favorite. The aroma gets you first with orange, pear, apple, and grapefruit, and then the taste hits you with some delicious hops, a bittersweet chocolate, and unsweetened citrus flavor. It leaves your mouth with a pleasant and delicious feeling. So tasty! I can’t wait to try the Double Pilsner as well. It’s sure to meet Odell’s standards. If you’re looking for something a little lighter, then Easy Street is the route. This palette pleaser emits an earthy wheat flavor with a hint a lemon in the background. My favorite for a warm summer day. I won’t get into how good every single beer really tastes, but take my word, they’re all amazing! Grab a six’er for yourself… oh, and don’t forget the frosty mug. Cheers!
